Story
The Phoenix King is the political leader and military leader of the High Elves and thus ruler of Ulthuan and its colonies. The position is not hereditary, so upon the death of a Phoenix King, his successor is chosen by the High Elven princes.
In the year of the death of a Phoenix King (a year that is considered as part of the reign of the deceased Phoenix King) the princes of the High Elves gather in the sanctuary of Asuryan, to select his successor. Many are the factors that influence the choice of a new King such as reputation, achievements, power, influence of the kingdom of the prince in question, etc., are important factors. The military situation, in particular the war against the Dark Elves, also influences the choice of a warrior king or a more peaceful one. Traditionally, in the last thirty days of mourning for the previous king, the election of the next one takes place, although in practice it happens much earlier. In fact, political intrigues begin long before the current king has died.
